Ned Stark – David Jorge Lourenço Soares

Why did you pick this picture?

I did this picture because I wanted a challenge, so I looked for the perfect character and reference to improve my skills, and so I chose “Eddark Stark” played by Sean Bean.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

It came by me rewatching the series since the beginning, after I realised how much the character meant for the series, and how good was the actor’s acting, I was inspired to do a portrait of him.

What does this art mean to you?

Being a fan of game of thrones since it came out, I felt I need to homage my favourite character from season one, I loved the acting made by the actor and wanted to faithfully represent his expression though out the series.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Well, I’m David, 20 years old, I was born in a small city in Portugal called Guarda, I always loved drawing since I was a kid, I would draw in every corner of my house, the walls, the windows the floor, even under the tables! My parents had a difficult time indeed. Later, after the 9th grade I chose I wanted arts above everything else, and since then is has become my life and I wouldn’t imagine doing anything else.

What more can you tell us about your art?

When I was 13 I saw this realistic drawing of an eye on a exibition, I was amazed an I fell in love with realism right there and then. And so, I started exploring realism and doing figurative art and still life. I like a good challenge and will spend hours drawing a picture as realistic as possible. Still, I’m not trying to be a print machine, I also like to make it artistic, give it a style of my own and experiment with various media. I believe that art can reflect reality but can also enhance it so we see what matters and freeze it in time.
