criss-crossed – Jenny.pdf

Why did you pick this picture?

I picked this picture because it’s a good representative of my current style and skills as an artist. I’ve been experimenting and playing with transparency, and this piece is the end result of all my trial and error. I’m really proud of how it turned out in the end

Where did the idea for this art come from?

Well, my art teacher at school assigns us loose prompts for each new piece we create  (I’m currently creating a series of 24 pieces for my 2017 AP Portfolio) so this is my interpretation of the prompt “surreal space”

What does this art mean to you?

Well, this piece is a successful (in my mind, at least) attempt of the transparent techniques I’ve been trying for the past few months. It’s quite big (18×24 in) and took me a REALLY long time to complete, so now that it’s finally complete, it represents all the progress I’ve made with my art style this year!

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’ve been doing art my whole life (since 3rd grade!) but I’ve never actually seriously considered it for a career until just last year (my junior year of high school). Then I worked really really hard and improved a LOT. The quality of my work from the past few years is almost night and day.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I don’t have a refined style/ technique that I’m proud of yet, but I’ve definitely discovered what I like and don’t like. I’m going to college next year, so I’m really excited to try out new styles of art. There’s so much I haven’t explored – digital art, installation art, animation, etc. I hope that alongside my college courses, I’ll continue to refine my style.

As for what my style is, I’ve described it as “pop surreal” I like to do colorful, detailed art. I’m currently working on movement and texture, and I hope that can take my art technique to the next level!
