Why did you pick this picture?
it is the most popular post i have on instagram and shows some of the valentines day hearts i made and sold.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
i really wanted to make something gruesome but sweet at the same time. the human heart has always represented love and affection so i wanted to make something that looks closer to the actual thing (even though they aren’t anatomically correct) but more so than the traditional heart shape.
What does this art mean to you?
it means a lot to be able to help others express themselves through the creations i make!
What can you tell us about yourself?
im 31, married for almost 9 years now and we have a son who is coming up on 2. we live close to the beach where we love to take our big chocolate newfoundland dog for walks. when i am not working on my creations i am running my own construction business!
What more can you tell us about your art?
i have always been big on drawing! i started drawing at a very young age because i would see the really cool things my brother would draw, and i couldnt help but think how awesome it is to be able to create such visually stunning things! so i have been drawing pretty much my entire life until almost one year ago when i started sculpting.
the sculpting came about shortly after having our son and i knew i was going to home a lot more and i just really wanted a new hobby. originally i planned to pick up wood carving/sculpting but quickly found that very time consuming and even more messy!
i knew i wanted to sculpt organic looking things like teeth and gums and eyes and make them as realistic as possible. i always loved halloween scary stuff growing up. so one day im on google images looking for source material and to see if anyone has already done what i wanted to start doing, and in that search i found what i was looking for but not in wood carving. instead it was clay sculpting! i saw some people already doing similar things and knew that was the best road to take so i invested $300 to buy everything i read i would need and have not stopped since!
