More is More and Less is a Bore – Rachelbennettart

Why did you pick this picture?

I chose the picture because it’s my favourite drawing I’ve done so far.

Where did the idea come from?

The reason I chose the reference was because I love drawing interesting people who stand out from everyone else. The woman’s name is Iris Apfel. She’s a New York fashion designer and style icon. I love drawing people who stand out and have a unique look. Her glasses make her different to me and it helps make the drawing more memorable to people. I wanted to draw an elderly person because it shows the skill in the skin texture. She stood out to me as interesting and that’s why I drew her.

What does this art mean to you?

This piece reminds me to always be myself and don’t let anyone else stop me from being unique.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a 14 year old artist and I’m from Ireland. I love drawing and music so much. Some day I hope I can become a professional artist and actress. I’ve always been inspired by musical theatre and music itself. It makes me so happy. I tend to draw realistic portraits. But now and again I do cartoons and marker portraits.

What more can you tell us about your art?

My main inspirations for art are Chuck Close and Andy Warhol. I use prismacolor pencils and sometimes copic markers. I hope to keep improving my art and do large scale portraits

  1. What an amazing drawing! I love Iris Apfel. I think I am going to be just like her when I reach her age. I admire her boldness to wear beautiful statement pieces. It’s another form of art. Fashion is art and fashion chose Iris! Good job to both of you!
