Pop Excess – Dhton

Why did you pick this picture?

This is my most recently completed painting and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’ve been experimenting with different techniques and color schemes recently which I think all worked together in this painting.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

The modern age! We live in an age of excessive information and I want to capture that in my work. I cram different colors, shapes, and textures into a painting in order to create an image of beautiful excess.

What does this art mean to you?

It’s so important to me. Making abstract art is like looking at my own mind under a microscope. Since much of my art is based on impulse, I begin to notice patterns in my thought and movement that I would never see otherwise.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m currently 24 and live in Brooklyn, NY. My greatest love other than art is the natural world, and I double majored in studio art and environmental studies while in school.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I have been making art since I can remember`and have progressed through a good amount of mediums already. I practiced traditional ink painting while studying abroad in Japan, worked in more figurative environmental paintings while in school, and only in the last year or so made the leap to abstract art, where I definitely feel the most comfortable.
