October 24, 2016 (Day 909) – derek_the_deliman

Why did you pick this picture?

I chose this image because I feel its a good representation of the style of art I’m most known for at the moment.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

The vast majority of my work are tattoo design that people commission me to create. We knew the basic idea for this design (triangle, sun, stipple dot) and I created mock ups and we came up with this design.

What does this art mean to you?

This was a commission piece, and I love commission work. I have people from all around the work reach out to me to have me create something special for them. It’s just an awesome feeling to know that so many people enjoy your work from all walks of life.

What can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Derek Myers and I’m a Freelance Graphic Designer / Illustrator from Ohio. Early on I realized I wanted to have an art related career, but wanted to avoid being a “starving artist”, so I chose to go to college and get a degree in graphic design. It was in college that I began my Daily Drawing series that’s currently over 900+ days of posting new art every day. At first this was just a way to just improve as an artist, but overtime people took interest and I starting growing a following on Tumblr and Instagram. After I graduated and got my first design job I realized sitting in an office all day wasn’t how I wanted to live my life, so I began taking steps to make my art a career. I’m happy to say I’ve finally reached that point, and I’m now working from home as a full time artist.

What more can you tell us about your art?

Art is a very personal thing. For me it’s a very relaxing experience as I listen to music and just create mountains, trees, and rivers for hours.
