Why did you pick this picture?
This picture is a great example of my style as an artist. It shows one piece out a, for now, collection of 6 different animals. The illustrations are all based on half animal vs. half machine. Instead of people thinking animals are made of flesh and blood, I see them as a machine moving by mechanics. So you see and half animal face and a half industrial face of how the animal looks inside. This artwork represents me because of the eye catching design, colorful design, contrast design, and mostly by searching for something different. The imagination in this artwork shows the way I think and work as an artist. Don’t see everything just as it is, try to look closer and further.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
The idea for this collection came forward out of the love for technic. How things are made and move. I though the contradiction with a living creature would be so much fun and cool. Also to show the imagination that an animal can look totally different as we in society thinks it looks.
What does this art mean to you?
This art means to me that you as an artist can have the ability to show something totally different as it is in real life. You have to ability to make people aware of their own imagination. Why always drawing things as they are in real life? Maybe animals do have mechanism inside instead of flesh and blood?
What can you tell us about yourself?
I am a creative person since the day I was born. Always being busy with drawing, making art, being creative, finding creative solutions and so on. After my secondary school I started studying Industrial Design at the Technical University Eindhoven. After my Master Degree I started my own company Drawmore, which focuses on stage and show design for the event industry, graphic design, illustrations, and animations. I thing I love about having an own company is to see you creativity come to life in the real world and been really functional.
What more can you tell us about your art?
I always had the dream to make my drawings/ art come to life and especially in the stage and show design you see your artwork come to life in big stage designs for big festivals all around the world. And to make thousands of people happy by giving them visual pleasure with such a stage and show design, that is what makes me as a designer/ artist happy as well. I always want to make people smile with my art.
I am also as an artist always trying to learn, that’s why I started the daily doodle challenge this year. I started this daily doodle challenge, making a max. 1 hour doodle each day, to train myself as an artist. I learned to push myself to have something on paper within in hour, to be quicker with sketching, more efficient, easily find inspirations, and so on.
