Remedy – emmaleonepalmer

Why did you pick this picture?

This the most recent painting from my ‘Paint Play’ series

Where did the idea for this art come from?

The ‘Paint Play’ series explore the physical and emotional reactions individuals experience by placing (or wiping off) paints, onto the surface of their face and the questions that arise. Through this theatrical process elements of the subjects personality shine through otherwise untapped in traditional portraiture.

What does this art mean to you?

“I am not interested in painting ‘bowls of fruit’ but living, breathing, expressive human beings, and I love the fact that this ‘Paint Play’ brings out the sparkle in each individual whether it is in a serious/sensual/crazy/sexy/playful/spiritual/childlike/fabulous manner”

What can you tell us about yourself?

I like to say I paint ‘expressions’, not just what is on the aesthetic surface but the dialogue of what’s underneath. The internal dialogue vs. the external portrayal. These days give me gutsy, give me energy, give me bold. I have lots of juicy projects I am dying to get my teeth stuck into. I can be found in my Wimbledon studio, tunes on loud, a camera or paintbrush in hand, invariably smearing paint around… not least on an obliging face!

What more can you tell us about your art?

I will be opening my studio up to the public November 10-13th at the The Wimbledon Art Studios ‘Open Studios’.. come and see where the magic happens! Some of my recent exhibitions include: #Tribe16, Portrait16, Mall Galleries SWA, Art Gemini Prize. Work is in collections around the world and she has many interesting commissions from celebrities to, most recently, a 9 year old boy with ‘Chelsea’ blue smeared all over his face.
