James Dean Tribute – thefallstrings

Why did you pick this picture?

I always admired James Dean for his unparalleled coolness and acting talent in his films. He left us way too early. I have seen this image of him so often on the internet and wanted to figure out how it would look made with strings and nails.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

Many years ago I saw a very abstract string art work in my grandparents house, made by my mother when she was young. I was very interested in that style, but forgot it somehow over the years. In the last months I saw a few string art works on the internet, remembered my mom’s work and wanted to try it by myself, with the motives I like the most.

What does this art mean to you?

For me it is a perfect mixture of craft with minimalistic and detailed artwork. I also like it that few other people do that which makes it a bit special and unique.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I am 19 years old from Munich in Germany and always loved to do arts and crafts in school and at home. I like to visualise people, team or band logos, all in all things which mean something to me, or also other people’s suggestions, I’m up to everything!

What more can you tell us about your art?

It’s the process from the unworked wood board to the final string art work what I like the most. The many hours of sewing, hammering and threading the strings through the nails create a special connection to the artpiece.
