Why did you pick this picture?
This is one of my first pieces and thought it represented some of the core themes of my work (visual illusion, colour psychology and pareidolia). I also enjoy mixing contrasting and complementary colours and this was a good example of that.
I thought it would be an interesting way to explore how we can see distinct images in abstraction.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
I am fascinated with perception and pareidolia, seeing faces and distinct imagery in abstract forms. I started with real fluid paint and used digital editing to finesse the image into its final form. I wanted this piece to look like a woman’s head in silhouette profile holding ghostly images within.
What does this art mean to you?
As an artist, I try to create art that stimulates the viewer to look at art in a different way. We all see different things when we look at art so my work is a hybrid that blurs the line between the real and the imaginary.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I am an experimental abstract artist and filmmaker, sometimes bridging the gap between acrylic and digital art. I don’t create CGI but rather use digital editing to manipulate real acrylic art. I am a self-taught amateur, learning as I go and making new discoveries along the way.
What more can you tell us about your art?
I use different mediums in my work such as fluid acrylics, photography and video to explore various themes: fluid symmetry, colour psychology, optical illusion and pareidolia. I want the viewer to be visually stimulated and see many subtle images, as well as provoke discussion about perception. I also create galactic art from fluid acrylics, geometric abstractions and optical illusion art from photos of animal fur patterns and markings, to see new images in nature. It’s all related to seeing the normal in innovative ways.
