My take on a Gibson Girl – mollykathleen_art

Why did you pick this picture?

Its one of my more recent sketches, and im really quite proud of it haha!

Where did the idea for this art come from?

I’ve recently started Illustration at university, and was researching the work of Charles Dana Gibson, so decided to sketch my take on his ‘gibson girls’ hence the title of the piece.

What does this art mean to you?

My art is quite childlike I suppose and simple, but this piece, though still in my style, feels more realistic, and grown up. its a good piece to look at and compare to my old art, because its so nice to see how I’ve developed as an artist.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m 18, and a first year at university in the UK studying illustration. To describe myself in 3 parts, I suppose it would be music listener, art lover and a massive geek haha.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I’ve always drawn and done art, because, if I’m honest, its the only thing I was good at, at school. But my main issue through art lessons was that I was absolutely awful at noses. Then one day I tried to paint a nose and I noticed the shading looked like a triangle, I filled it in, and it has since become my trademark 🙂
