Wesson – megzarts

Why did you pick this picture?

This picture represents why I started sketching animals. They are family members, such pure and loving beings. When we lose one, the heartbreak is often unbearable. I wanted a way to remember them and eternalize them, with life in their eyes.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

An old friend recently got married and her parents asked if I would sketch their pets as a wedding gift. Sketching Wesson was very special for me, not only because I had known is owner for many years, but also because I know he was taken from them too soon.

What can you tell us about yourself?

What more can you tell us about your art? I have a MSc in animal behaviour and welfare and a BSc in zoology, but have always had a passion for the arts. I used to sketch occasionally, but only really got into art more seriously in 2014. It helped me deal with stress and negativity in a productive and positive way. Now, it provides the opportunity to eternalize beloved family members for other people. It is incredibly rewarding for me.

Most of my commissioned sketches are of pets, with the occasional human portrait. I’m my free time I like to draw Disney characters and other little things that I find inspiring. My favourite mediums are prismacolour pencils on strathmore paper, but I do paint on occasion.
