Korio – Akissi

Why did you pick this picture?

This was the first decent-looking landscape I created. I’m not very good at drawing backgrounds,

so I consider it a huge personal achievement.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

I love modern bestiaries, but most of them are rather biased in their approach to mythology.

Many interesting cultures are misrepresented or noticeably absent. So I decided to create

a series of collages depicting mythical creatures from not-so-well-known cultures. The Korio

is a Malian bird whose song signals future rainstorms.

What does this art mean to you?

I’m pretty attached to it because it took a lot of time and effort to complete successfully.
What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a Spanish Design graduate and freelance illustrator.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I come from an interracial family, so my work is heavily influenced by other cultures.

I also draw inspiration from history, anthropology and literature.
