Why did you pick this picture?
I chose this artwork because I’ve always been a fan of the Batman Universe. I grew up on the Batman animated series and have always thought Dick Grayson (Nightwing) was an awesome character. I really wanted to show people my take on Nightwing.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
The idea for the artwork just came to me. Approximately 2 years ago, I created a Nightwing artwork traditionally, using black markers, but wanted to challenge myself to create another Nightwing artwork, but digitally this time.
What does this art mean to you?
This Nightwing piece, means a lot to me because I really challenged myself to learn new and different techniques. How much I experimented with this piece was unreal! On this piece I placed many details, such as adding textures to his suit. All these things were new to me. Even trying to create a dynamic pose while playing with the lighting was challenging. This piece means a lot to me, because it is a symbol of me trying new things, getting out of my comfort zone and challenging myself to be better. Both in terms of my artwork, and in life.
What can you tell us about Yourself?
I was born in Canada and always enjoyed playing Soccer and Drawing. It wasn’t until I hit high school that I thought about an actual profession in art. At the end of my high school career I was offered a soccer scholarship to the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, in the U.S., which I attended for one year. After the one year I decided to continue to pursue my dream as an artist/animator. I moved back home and decided to enroll in Sheridan College’s Art Fundamentals program before attempting the Animation program. I did this because I believe I needed some improvement before going for it. After completing the Animation Program portfolio (while currently enrolled in Art Fundamentals) I got the results that I was accepted into Sheridan’s Animation Program. This Fall I will be starting my First Year of Sheridan’s Bachelor of Animation Program.
What more can you tell us about your art?
In art, one thing I want is for people to notice my work, and for people to be able recognize it no matter what. I want someone to walk by an artwork and be like “oh that looks like it was done by VizualWizard”. I want people to recognize my style and be able to distinguish it. Other than that I’ve always had a dream of being able to create my own world with my artwork. Creating characters, stories, and worlds are all things I’ve wanted to create and toshare with others. Whether it’s through comics, TV shows, movies, etc. I want to be able to share my worlds with people. That has always been my dream, and getting into Sheridan’s Animation Program has gotten me one step closer to achieving that dream!
