The Cruiser – taylorgrosseart

Why did you pick this picture?
I chose this picture because it is one of my more thought out pieces. I usually use my art as a form of relaxation or stress relief, so my drawings tend to end up in sketchbooks a lot of the time. This particular piece was intentional, which adds to its value in my opinion.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

-I had been seeing a lot of different mandala artist online. I knew I wanted to do a mandala drawing, but I had to find the right patterns for it. I didn’t want to use the same exact shapes as the other artists I had seen, so once I figured out what patterns and motifs I wanted to use, and I started with a basic circle and worked my way out.
What does this art mean to you?

This work is important to me because when I draw, I meditate as well. This work, along with many of my others, is therapy for me.
What can you tell us about yourself?

I am obsessed with animals, especially dogs. I watch way too much television. I am from Florida, but I lived in South Carolina for twelve years.
What more can you tell us about your art?

Everyday objects inspire me. If I see something that I like aesthetically, I will take a photo and then reference it later to come up with patterns. I also often draw in a stream-of-consciousness fashion. Basically, I will start with a shape, fill it with patterns and just keep going without planning everything ahead of time. This type of drawing allows me to get out of my head and focus on my pen and paper.
