Anger in art work – lydia191

Why did you pick this picture?
I picked this photo because it is the one connected with all the ideas I had the most. I feel it says a lot about the subject itself, which is mental illness. I am sometimes not happy with all the art work that I do (same as most people really) but I feel this worked out better then I thought it would.

Where did this idea for this art come from?

I would say the idea of this work came from was around my subject, I work a lot around mental illness and the different feelings we feel and try and connect it with the art work I do. So with this work, I believe it connects with feelings like anger, with the burning, low with the crackles from flour and dark emotions with the green ink. Also this work has a lot of texture to it, so it is quite sharp in some places, which I feel fits in perfectly with the topic. I have done different types of work all around this and the topic and I wanted to create a piece where it had all the different materials and emotions I have worked around in the past.
What does this art mean to you?

The topic that I focus on is quite a personal topic to me, Some art that I do is based around how I feel or have felt and I find the easiest way to describe my feelings is by expressing it. So I like to work around different materials and colours to what fits my mood the best and because it is based around mental illness, it does relate to a lot of people so I think the work means a lot more when other people appreciate it.
What can you tell us about yourself?

I am correctly going onto my 3rd year at university, studying fine art. It was only until I started university where I found and created a technique, which is flour and water. Since I have created this method, I use it quite a lot in projects. Because it is something I find that work very well. I have always been creative but It was not until I was in secondary school where I really got into art and because of that, I did a 3 year course at college, studying art and design. Since going onto university, I tend to always create work which is based on something personal, either to myself or others
What more can you tell us about your art?

The materials I use for my artwork is mainly flour and water. Most of the time I add other materials to this, such as charcoal, ink, Acrylic paint and recently I have been working with string. One of my favourite outcomes of this technique is when I burn the flour. I always seem to work around the same materials but the outcome of each is always different.
