Why did you pick this picture?
I picked this picture because I feel it symbolizes my life at the moment. A lot of big changes have been going on recently and sometimes finding a direction in which to step is really hard. I painted the lighthouse without a light because I don’t know exactly know where I’m going right now; and that’s okay. I don’t need to have a guiding light to hope for a successful future, I just have to believe in myself.
Where did the idea come from?
The idea for this piece came from my cousins. They travel near and far to visit lighthouses all over. Big, small, old, new, the variations are endless. I think it’s fascinating that something so simple can be beautiful in so many ways.
What does this art mean to you?
This art means choice. You have the opportunity to decide where you want to go, who you want to be and the impact you can make on others. I choose art because it not only makes me smile, being able to express myself through colors and styles, but by making others smile. Art is not just art, it is a language and the best kind of people tend to understand you better if they can truly appreciate your art.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I’m 24, a Mobility Engineer and a huge white wine advocate . I may be quiet but my mind is a constant flow of ideas. Those ideas often make it on the canvas as creativity keeps me grounded. My job can be stressful at times, like most others, and painting gives me the much needed opportunity to relax. When I’m not working or painting, I’m reading a new Stephen King novel, throwing frisbee with someone special or at the liquor store stocking up on my wine 🙂 I love to cook and bake and be creative in any way possible. I’m a firm believer in the phrase ” if you don’t use it, you lose it”… So you better believe I’m always using what I have to do what I love.
What more can you tell us about your art?
When I get dressed you can probably bet your left hand that I’m wearing something black, grey or blue. When I paint, I like to make sure I’m making use of colors. My two favorite colors to paint are purple and gold. Not just because they are complementary, but because they are the colors of royalty. I feel if you hold your art to high standards, you can mirror that in daily life! I love seeing my paintings hanging in my kitchen or in my office because I know that I’m using my God given talents
