Wrapped – karrrieannne

Why did you pick this picture?
I painted this picture mostly so I can try out a new technique. I painted a portrait in acrylic. After, I cut out a stencil and places it over the painting. I then repainted the portrait using oil paints. I let it dry for about two days and then peeled the stencil off.
Where did the idea come from?

I love doing portraits, especially of women, as well as being heavily influenced by sacred geometry. I created the stencil to be an expanding flower of life. The flower starts on the forehead to represent the third eye and spiritual awakening.

Why does this picture mean so much to you?

The picture means a lot to me because I think it was a successful excitement. I work mostly with acrylics, so I was nervous to paint entirely over the painting using a medium I was unfamiliar with (oil painting). Overall I’m happy with the results.

Tell us a little something about yourself?

I am 26 years old, originally from New York and currently living in Texas. I have a bachelors degree in Art Education and teach art in an elementary school in Ft. Worth. I live with my husband, who is also an artist, 2 cats, and more art that more art then we know what to do with.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I love to experiment with different mediums. From pencils to printmaking to every kind of paint. Changing the medium around each portrait adds to the unique style of that particular person.
